For the most part, this has been a team of overachievers. There are some exceptions. Boof Bonser (3-6, 6.50 ERA) no longer gets a pass based on his name alone.  Delmon Young has 3HRS and 35 RBIs, unacceptable numbers considering his ability.

Then, the Royals came to bat to find Boof Bonser taken out of the game after sic shutout innings. If there was ever a time when it seemed like momentum had switched in a baseball game, this was it.

but not a guy you want to rely on as your ace.

So the Twins need someone to pick it up, and today Boof Bonser at least showed some potential to do so. He threw  four shutout innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. That's good in and of itself, what's even more encouraging is that he showed an ability to throw his breaking pitch and a change-up for strikes. As Boof himself said, last season he threw maybe two changeups a game, today he worked it into his regular routine. if he can keep that up, it will turn him into a four-pitch starter, and quite possibly make him the effective, reliable starter that the Twins hope he can be.

The number one goal the Twins gave Boof Bonser for the off-season was to lose some weight. Anyone who watched him pitch last year could understand why. He looked chunky on the mound, and his performance reflected it. There weren't too many times when Boof made it past the seventh inning, he was usually out in the fifth or sixth at the latest.
