The Twins have rebounded from an awful series in Seattle when they blew two leads and lost two of three to the woeful Mariners. They're six of eight since then, including two of three against the Yankees.

Slowey allowed only three hits and one run in six innings, and the bullpen finished it off. Joe Nathan earned his 32nd save in 34 chances. Nathan, who has an ERA of 1.05.

Mauer was three for four with a run and two RBIs, while Nick Punto, Brendan Harris and Delmon Young had two hits.
Scott Baker didn't have a great outing, but it was good enough. Nor was the bullpen perfect, but it was up to the task.

Mauer, Brian Buscher and the red-hot Delmon Young had the Twins' only hits. I'm not surprised the Rangers scraped out a win in the series -- they're much improved -- but the 1-0 score is a shock. Both teams had been scoring plenty of runs.

In 35 games since June 1, Young is batting .350 with 10 doubles, four homers and 24 RBIs. Said Gardenhire of his homer to center field: "That just tells you how much he has inside of him."

Jason Kubel, Delmon Young and Alexi Casilla had outstanding games at the plate. Kubel went two for four with two runs and two RBIs; Young was four for four with an RBI and boosted his average to .294; Brian Buscher went two for four with two RBIs; Brendan Harris went two for four with an RBI; and Justin Morneau was one for three with two runs.

If you watched the highlights of the game, you might be surprised that Mauer didn't run like a catcher. He scored from first on Morneau's double -- the guy can motor. (Remember he was rated a top quarterback prospect and had a scholarship offer from Florida State.

Second, key players such as Joe Mauer, Delmon Young, Craig Monroe and Jason Kubel have to hit for power consistently.
Third, the bullpen has to improve. It's been weaker than in the past. Joe Nathan's still great, but the setup guys have faltered.

So the Twins lost a game vs. the Orioles when they couldn't hit and the bullpen wasn't quite up to snuff. The next night it was the pitching that was horrible, though it was a windy day when the balls were blowing out.

And after a game when both Michael Cuddyer and Delmon Young had strong games, both went hitless. The team doesn't seem to have much power, especially if Cuddyer and Young can't hit it out. And Jason Kubel needs to hit a lot better than .236. We loved that slam you hit a while back, but what have you done for us latel?

What if Delmon Young started to drive in a few runs?
What if Joe Mauer started to hit with power?
What if Michael Cuddyer got hot?
What if the Twins overcome the hex the Yankees have had over them?

It's the eighth inning and the Minnesota Twins and Tampa bay rays are locked in a five all tie. The Twins have a runner on third with one out. Mike Lamb hits a fly ball that's tailing into the left field foul area when in a flash speedy Tampa Bay outfielder Carl Crawford comes running from his position and makes a great sliding catch. The only problem is he's in no position to make a throw, and delmon Young easilt tags up and scores the eventual winning run from third base.

Going into today's action, Young was 8 for thirteen, (.615) with a homerun and four RBI's. The best part of that is he's hitting the ball to all fields, something that the Twins coaching staff may not have expected. That's an awfully good quality in a young hitter, especially one with some power. Being able to hit to the opposite field makes a hitter dangerous as a situational hitter, not just when the circumstances are right to pull the ball. If he can keep it up and carry that approach into the regular season, the Twins will be getting all they hoped for and more out of
