Jason Kubel lifted his game in this road series. The Athletics didn’t seem as dominate as he changed the game with his home-run in the 7th. Alexi Casilla did his job by getting on base and scoring the winning run of the night.

Matt Guerrier and Joe Nathan were fine in the bullpen, but Dennys Reyes allowed a run. The pen hasn't been quite as strong as in recent years.

Meanwhile, Jason Kubel has quietly been improving his own numbers. His average stands at .258 and he has 37 RBIs. Delmon Young upped his totals to .276, 24, but the latter number if inadequate. He needs to get going in the second half for the Twins to have any sort of success.

Second, key players such as Joe Mauer, Delmon Young, Craig Monroe and Jason Kubel have to hit for power consistently.
Third, the bullpen has to improve. It's been weaker than in the past. Joe Nathan's still great, but the setup guys have faltered.

Not to worry. The Twins loaded the bases and with a swing of the bat Jason Kubel put the game on ice. It was the big hit the twins have been searching for in vain so far this season, only the team's fourth homerun of the year. But as Kubel rounded the bases with a drand slam and Twins fans watching on TV indulged in a "Sit down, Sox" moment, it couldn't help but make you feel that if the starting pitching holds up and the offense produces more nights like this, this season just might be a lot of fun.
