It was a close game throughout. Nick Blackburn pitched well for the Twins, John Denks was a little bit better for the White Sox.
Blackburn made one mistake, and Jim Thome made him pay with a homer. The Sox had only five hits, the Twins two.

Maybe it was the day off Monday. The Twins had a brutal road trip and probably just got tired. (And ran into a team that's put it all together at the end of the year, the Jays.)

The Twins pitching was shaky in this series. Nick Blackburn allowed only three runs in six innings, and for once the bullpen gave up no runs -- thanks to Span.

Nick Blackburn had a terrific start, allowing just one run in seven innings.
Saturday's game was a laugher, as the Twins stomped on the Indians, 11-4. Brian Buscher had a career game, going three for five with a homer and five RBIs. Morneau was two for three with two runs, and Delmon Young went three for five with two runs and two RBIs. Kubel was two for four with a run and two RBIs.

The Twins had to win in a way they're not used to -- hitting homers. Joe Mauer's power in the eighth inning, only his third of the year, was the decisive blow in the 7-6 Twins win. It was the third Twins' homer of the game -- Alexi Casilla and Jason Kubel went deep as well.

Slowey lowered his ERA to 3.96 after his strong outing. Nick Blackburn's ERA is 3.68, Scott Baker's is 3.47 and Glen Perkins' is 4.39. They've all done well during the Twins' winning streak. And Livan Hernandez, who was supposed to be the ace of the stuff, has an ERA of 5.23. (The team has gotten some runs for him and he's 8-4.)

Nick Blackburn of the Twins was felled on Sunday by a line drive off the bat of Yankee Bobby Abreu, who's enough of a nice guy to show obvious distress as he ran to first. It's one of the greatest fears of any pitcher, as few have the instincts to get out of the way of a ball traveling 100+ MPH from fifty-five feet away (recall that the pitcher typically lands much closer to the plate than the sixty feet, six inches from the rubber to the plate).

*Which brings us to the offense. Gomez and Mauer are a nice combination at the top of the liheup, Morneau stepped up his slugging over the weekend. But the rest of the linup has so far shown a dearth of clutch hitting, and that's leading to playing from behind too often early in the season.

Where, oh where has the hitting gone...
The Twins found a pitcher last night. Nick Blackburn, in his first major league start, went seven innings, struck out six, walked one, and gave up only one run.
